The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting. The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
