A representative for Telegram said it regularly moderated harmful content on its service including content that encouraged the “misuse of controlled medications”. The company added that it eliminated “millions of pieces of harmful content each day”.

Healthcare Expert Cautions

“People are administering substances they can’t verify. Although the science behind retatrutide is sound, these digital versions may not contain what they claim,” said Jason Murphy, the director of pharmacy at Chemist4U.

Dr Crystal Wyllie of Asda Online Doctor linked the surge in demand to current price rises for authorized weight-loss medications such as Mounjaro. “With costs rising, individuals are using online platforms. Her team has already encountered individuals harmed by personal administration from unconfirmed sources. “We understand the frustration, but purchasing from Telegram or communication platforms is taking chances with your health,” stated the doctor. “These materials could be impure or improperly measured.”

A spokesperson from Eli Lilly said retatrutide was in third stage research studies and had not been reviewed or approved by any government authority globally. “Consequently at this point no one can market [it] for human use,” they said, adding that any product “misleadingly claiming itself as a Lilly investigational substance not yet authorized … may subject patients to possibly significant health risks”.
